Dear Past Love, Letter #4

I was once your utmost admirer,

The way you weaved words into the most

spectacular of stories, always had me

pleading for a sequel.

And when I begged you to write a story of 'us',

You obliged without any hesitation,

Creating a villain in the likes of yourself, and

a gullible maiden out of me.

The narrative you created presented

an unhappy ending,

As you claimed a longing for accuracy,

And already had a premonition of

our story’s final chapter.

But we were enthusiasts of the journey,

Although betrayal and heartbreak were

central themes in our tale,

We rode the carousel until the very end.

The ride left me with fresh bruises on my palm,

As I held tightly to rods in fear of falling.

But I don't think I could ever hate you for

any scars that remain,

Because even when I looked at you

with hope in my eyes,

You never alluded to a fairytale ending.

For that I will always love you,

And you will forever be engraved in my memory

as the first lover of mine to write me a tale of honesty.

Love you always,

Kleema Mac
